Opening a door with a credit card is possible because the thin material of the card is able to slip under the door bolt and simply slide it out of the way. Keep sliding it in until it touches the barrel of the lock. Once the corner is in straighten the card so that it is perpendicular to the door and the entire edge of the card is between the door and the strike plate. Insert the card between the door frame and the door near the handle.

While you slide the card in jiggle the handle so that it goes down a little as you keep putting pressure against the barrel with the card. Slide the card into the gap between the door and the jamb. Bend your card towards the doorknob. Push it in as far as it will go at a ninety degree angle to the door.
